Condition: very good, except for some old tape residue in the top margin (on back of the sheet, not affecting the etched image); also, as sometimes is found with impressions of this etching, there are pinholes in the margin (see second photo) but these are well outside of the plate. A very good impression of this scarce Childe Hassam print!

Medium: etching and drypoint. This is Seymour Haden's etched version of the painting by Thomas Wright of Derby entitled "Edwin the Minstrel". The man in the portrait was actually Sir Francis Seymour Haden's own grandfather.

This is a very rare first state impression -- before the artist added additional crosshatched drypoint shading at the back of the figure. An additional plate signature would also be added for the second state. There were five different states in all. Catalogue references: Drake 51 and Schneiderman 53. This impression is signed both in pencil and in the plate.

Printed on watermarked laid paper, the plate measures 14 x 9 1/2 inches (355 x 242mm). The total sheet measures 17 x 12 1/8 inches (434 x 308mm). Condition: Some age-toning to the paper, and there is a very small spot of skinning to the paper near the bottom of the figure's cloak.

Robert Indiana "Eternal Hexagon" original serigraph

Medium: original serigraph / silkscreen. In 1964 Samuel Wagstaff, Jr. (at that time Curator of Paintings at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartfordford, Connecticut) selected ten important American artists and asked them to contribute original prints for the portfolio “Ten Works by Ten Painters”. This was issued in 1964 in an edition of 500. The publisher's blindstamp is in the margin near the bottom right corner. Not signed.

The other artists collaborating with the project were Stuart Davis, Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Motherwell, George Ortman, Larry Poons, Ad Reinhardt, Frank Stella and Andy Warhol. Image size: 17 1/2 x 16 inches (445 x 408mm). Printed on wove paper with full original margins, the sheet measures 24 x 20 inches.

Condition (not affecting the image): there is minor age-toning in the margins; a small stain in the margin near the left edge of the sheet; and a crease in the margin near the top left corner of the sheet. This is a magnificent, rich impression and a true Pop Art classic. Rare!

Please note: there have been later editions of this important Kollwitz print, but this is the original first edition, published in Germany by Pan (V-1; 1899-1900); edition of 1100. The Pan inscription is printed at the bottom of the sheet (which demonstrates the provenance).

Printed in Germany in 1925 for the rare Ganymed "Das funfte Jahrbuch der Marees Gesellschaft", published in Munich by Marees-Gesellschaft, R. Piper & Co. The woodcut was printed by Fritz Voigt, of Berlin. This is a good, dark impression on wove paper from the unsigned edition of 900 (the total edition was 1000, of which 100 were signed). The image measures 7 1/8 x 4 1/8 inches (180 x 105 mm) with full original margins. In fine condition.

This piece is in the permanent collection of MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art). An important German Expressionist print offered at an attractive price. Not signed.

Medium: original etching and aquatint. This is Plate 62 from Goya's Los Desatres de la Guerra series; the Spanish title translates to "The Beds of Death". Catalogue reference: Delteil 181. The plate measures 6 7/8 x 8 3/8 inches (175 x 212 mm). This is a fine, rich impression on laid paper; the date of printing is unknown.

Condition: the sheet has been trimmed to just outside the platemark. The second photo shows the full sheet. Additionally, there is old glue residue on the back (which cannot be seen from the front and does not compromise the etching).

Medium: etching (etched by William Bicknell after Winslow Homer's 1896 painting). Although there is no inscription, it is presumed to have been published in 1906 by the John A. Lowell Bank Note Co., Boston, and issued for the Hamburg-American Line (there is a vignette of one of their passenger steamships in the margin at the bottom left). Image size: 23 1/2 x 17 1/2 inches (595 x 443mm) printed on heavy wove paper. Signed by Winslow Homer in the plate (not by hand).

Condition: The margins have been somewhat trimmed (not affecting the etching but slightly cropping the steamship vignette along the bottom edge). There is small skinned spot at the top right corner of the composition, and a pink eraser mark in the margin at the bottom right with skinning to the surface of the paper. A rich, dark impression of this magnificent etching. A lucky find!

Medium: original lithograph. This is an original print contributed by Max Ernst in 1975 for the portfolio "San Lazzaro et ses amis", published in Paris. A number of important artists collaborated together on this project, in homage to Gualtieri di San Lazzaro, founder of the deluxe art revuel XXe Siecle (Chroniques du Jour), and an instrumental figure in the Paris art world, as a publisher, critic and friend to many of the 20th Century's great printmakers. Among the artists represented are Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Zao Wou-ki, Joan Miro, Marc Chagall, Graham Sutherland, Rene Magritte, Hans Hartung, Lucio Fontana, Alberto Magnelli, Henry Moore, Serge Poliakoff and Max Bill.

This is a fine impression on quality Arches wove paper with deckle edges, printed in Vence in 1975 by Pierre Chave, in a limited edition of 575. The total sheet measures 14 x 10 1/4 inches (355 x 260mm). Signed in the stone (not by hand).

This original Erich Heckel woodcut is from GENIUS: Zeitschrift für Werdende und Alte Kunst. This art and literary project only lasted three years, but had incredible influence on German art and culture between the Wars. Some of the important artists contributing original prints included: Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Richard Seewald, Franz Marc, Erich Heckel, Frans Masereel, Max Kaus, Karl Hofer, Alexander Archipenko, and others. This was a major vehicle for the German Expressionists.

Medium: original offset lithograph and mixed media collage and multiple. Catalogue reference: Gemini 276. Executed in 1971; this impression was published by Gemini G.E.L. the same year. Size: 10 3/8 x 8 3/8 inches (262 x 213 mm). This multiple consists of a real paintbrush and three actual watercolor paint cakes mounted onto a two-color offset lithograph. Jasper Johns invites you to collaborate with him and complete the work, creating your own version of his Target. Signed in the image (not by hand).

Condition: in better condition usual for this piece, with the paintbrush still intact. Originally mounted inside a hinged white plastic clamshell case, the collage has become detached from the case (both the case and the Gemini "Technics and Creativity" catalog that was presented with this art work are included in the sale). A vintage Pop Art classic, and one of the few examples of Jasper Johns "Target 1970" that still survive.

This etching is one of the two "refusées" (refused by publisher Henri Vaton, presumably for being too risque. The scene depicts life in a Paris brothel.). A fine impression on laid paper. Not signed. Plate size: 3 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches (97 x 147mm).

This impression is one of the rare few to have been printed in 1880; a small later edition was also printed.

This original print is from the famous "1 Cent Life" book/portfolio, published in 1964 by E. W. Kornfeld, in a limited edition of 2000. The lithography was executed by Maurice Beaudet, of Paris. 1 Cent Life was a monumental undertaking-- a revolutionary Pop Art and poetry project organized by Walasse Ting and Sam Francis.
