This is a fine, rich impression on laid paper; the date of printing is unknown.
Condition: the sheet has been trimmed to just outside the platemark. Additionally, there is old glue residue on the back (which cannot be seen from the front and does not compromise the etching).

Medium: original etching, burnished aquatint and lavis. This impression on wove paper is from the small 5th edition published in 1904 by the Calcografia por el Real Academia. Catalogue references: Delteil 216 or Harris 262; third and final state. Plate size: 9 3/4 x 13 7/8 inches (249 x 353mm) with full original margins. A nice impression of this interesting composition for one of Goya's most famous series.

This impression is printed on cream wove paper; presumed to be from a later edition. Plate size: 5 9/16 x 6 9/16 inches (143 x 168mm). Condition: there is some foxing to the margins and some old tape mounts on back (in the margins). Provenance: from the Ferdinand Roten Galleries, of Baltimore, Maryland. The original Ferdinand Roten label has been conserved and is included with the sale.

This work has an interesting story: Published in 1901 by the Revue de l'Art ancien et moderne as an undiscovered Goya etching, it is now accepted to have been executed by Spanish painter Eugenio Lucas. Image size: 80 x 60 mm. Not signed. In fine condition with full original margins.
