Many of the artists who had been regular contributors to DLM throughout its more than thirty years of publication, contributed original prints for this project. Among these were Chagall, Miro, Kelly, Chillida, Palazuelo, Garache, Adami, Fiedler, Ubac, Pol Bury, Tal-Coat, Riopelle, Tapies, Bram van Velde and several others. Sheet size: 15 x 22 inches (380 x 558mm); there is a center fold with text on verso, as published.

Condition: This work was issued with a center fold, and has pinholes from the binding stitches along the center crease. There is tape along the back of this center fold from a previous conservation effort, as well as a few spots of minor color restoration to the front along the center crease.

Durand-Ruel, which was at the time was one of the world's foremost collections of Impressionist art. This print is a fine impression printed on cream laid paper, with a platemark (not shown here in this photo) and good margins; the plate measures 5 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches. Not signed. This etching is one of the two "refusées" (refused by publisher Henri Vaton, presumably for being too risque. The scene depicts life in a Paris brothel.). A fine impression on laid paper. Not signed. Plate size: 3 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches (97 x 147mm).

This impression is one of the rare few to have been printed in 1880; a small later edition was also printed.

XXe Siecle (Chroniques du Jour) was a deluxe art revue that was the source of many outstanding prints. It was published by Gualtieri di San Lazzaro from 1938-1939, and again from 1951 until 1978 (known as the Nouvelle Serie). Many important artists contributed original prints, including Miro, Picasso, Chagall, Braque, Villon, Matta, Indiana, Rosenquist, Lam, Dali, Zao Wou-ki, Matisse, Delaunay, Ernst, Poliakoff, Soulages, Leger, Moore, Kandinsky, Agam, Arp, Calder, Magnelli, Baj, Marini, Fautrier and Vasarely. A very richly inked impression and a rare find!
