Otto Dix Art

Otto Dix (1891-1969) was one of the well-known figures of the German Expressionisism art movement. Otto Dix paintings often explored war and suffering, and his bold German Expressionist painting style assured that he would be persecuted by the Nazis. In fact, he was one of the artists singled out for inclusion in the "Entartete Kunst" (Degenerate Art) show in 1937. After the war he largely dealt with religious subjects.

The Otto Dix lithographs offered here are from his famous "Das Evangelium nach Matthaus" (The Gospel of Matthew) suite, which portrays the life of Jesus with the characteristic German Expressionist style of Otto Dix that is both powerful and moving.
